The Shade Scan uses a computer-based color matching system to re-create the color of nearby teeth in new prosthodontic pieces. The Dental Spa is among the first practices in the nation to offer this advanced color matching technique.

The process of matching new restoration pieces with existing teeth is traditionally a challenging process. Prior to the Shade Scan system, dentists would use color buttons or tabs compared to a tooth to create the desired color. Now, with the innovation of the “digital shade taking” the Shade Scan matches the exact color of existing teeth and, when combined with the decades of cosmetic dentistry experience of Dr. Yaffe and Dr. Berson, can be completed with a very low margin of error.
“Matching tooth color is a very difficult process,” said Dr. Berson. “While many people believe there is only one color of white for teeth, there is actually a spectrum of colors. To make a restoration perfect, the colors of the new pieces and existing teeth must match perfectly. The Shade Scan is the newest tool to help us make beautiful smiles.”
The Shade Scan measures and reports the patient’s tooth color by providing a consistent source of light for color measuring. Once the color measurement is complete, the Shade Scan system determines the accurate measurement of color. The entire process takes only one minute and results in a standard color that can be easily communicated to the laboratory to speed the process and improve results.
