Porcelain Veneers

Shade Scan
Matching the color of your natural teeth to crowns, veneers or other dental restorations is now accomplished effortlessly using the Shade Scan system!

A smile—like hands—can reveal a good deal about a person. And if your hands deserve a manicure, then so do your teeth.  Porcelain veneers are used to cover a tooth’s facial (or front) surface, providing the appearance of straighter, whiter teeth for people with worn, crooked or stained teeth. Veneers are often used in place of crowns because they resist staining, reflect light and are among the strongest and most natural looking restoration available.

Types of Veneers

There are two types of veneers: direct and indirect. Direct veneers can be applied in a single visit using composite or plastic material. Indirect veneers are fabricated in a dental laboratory, and require two separate visits.

First Step

During the first visit, a local anesthetic is used and the tooth or teeth are reduced by approximately 0.5 mm - 2.0 mm. An impression of the teeth is sent to a dental laboratory for fabrication of the veneers. Depending on the amount of reduction necessary, we may apply a temporary veneer for you to wear until your next visit.  Some patients experience slight sensitivity to hot and cold in the time between the impression and the placement of the final restoration.

Second Step

At the second visit, the teeth are thoroughly cleaned and the final veneers are placed with a resin material and cured, or hardened, with a special curing light.

Long-Lasting Results

Typically, porcelain veneers last about 15 years. However, with proper care and maintenance, they can last longer.
